The college lacrosse season is barely out of the starting gate on the new season and we already have a new #1 team in the country. The Capital Region’s very own UAlbany Great Danes have claimed the top spot, a first in program history.
Hats off to Scott Marr and his entire staff on accomplishing this, obviously this is a small feat because the bigger prize awaits them in May, and that’s a National Championship.
The Great Danes are 2-0 on the year after they beat up on Drexel this past weekend. UAlbany scored 16 goals in the first half on there way to an 18-5 victory. Connor Fields finished the day with nine points, had 2 goals and seven assists. Fields now moves into 4th place all-time in UAlbany history in assists with 122.
TD Ierlan dominated the X, Ierlan won 21-of-22 faceoffs for 17 ground balls.
Freshman phenom Tehoka Nanticoke had five points on the day, three of those points being goals.
Head Coach Scott Marr had his guys prepared for this game after last weeks huge win over Syracuse. “We talked all week about moving on from Saturday’s game and being prepared for our opponent, and I thought we did that in the first half.”.
The Great Danes are home again this Saturday as they host Cornell. But like I said, May will bring a national championship. You heard it here first.
