An Open Letter to Albany Common Council Member, Judy Doesschate

I’m not sure if you know how the internet works, but once you post something, it lives on forever. While you were smart enough to hit the delete button on your post trying to tear down Albany’s own first responders, we were smart enough to take screenshots before you did.

I’m also not sure if you fully thought this over before you posted it on Facebook. I see you’re a member of the Albany Common Council, but your views are quite the opposite of common.

To take a picture of two first responders grabbing a coffee at Stewart’s while double parked on New Scotland is a bad look for a public figure. I mean, we get it, they were double parked. They probably should have tried to find a spot that was close to their destination, but they didn’t. What if they couldn’t find a spot close enough and it was just quicker to double park for a minute and grab a cup of joe? I’m pretty sure if you ask anyone if it’s that big of a deal they would reply with a quick no and then ask “why are you wasting our time with a dumb question.” And then continue to tear you apart in the comment section.

And if you were to ask the President of Mohawk Ambulance, James McPartlon he would say that “employees are instructed to have their emergency service vehicles readily accessible at all times, in the event that they are dispatched to a call that requires their immediate departure.”

These guys are first on the scene to accidents and barely make $13 per hour. They deal with a lot of stresses on the job, get shit on, puked on and bled all over. But I’m sure you understand right? I’m sure the stresses of your job as an Albany Common Council member rival those of a first responder…

You don’t think they should be ok to temporarily double park just as UPS or delivery men do? What if they got a call and their ambulance was parked down the street where you thought it should be? What if YOU needed and ambulance and they were parked down the street? When responding to an emergency every. second. counts.

The fact that you went out of your way to TAKE a picture of these two men and then POST it to a social media to try to shame them is shameful in its own right. I thought public figures have PR firms that tell them whether or not something they do is a good or bad idea, but you clearly don’t. Well Judy let me just be the first to say that not only was this a bad idea, but a horrendous error in judgement as this is now what your constituents have to say about you.

Maybe instead of shaming these men you should have bought them coffee and thanked them for their service. But I’m sure you made the correct decision right? I’m anxious to see how this post propels your political career.

Yours Truly,
