Ever since ESPN produced a commercial depicting the life of a man with the name Michael Jordan, I spend a moment here and there wondering what it must be like to share a name with a celebrity. I’m sure there’s perks, I’m sure there’s let-downs, and I’m sure there’s a lot of a hell to pay when your name is Donald Trump, Isis, or Bill Cosby.
Jimmy Kimmel invited real people with those names onto his show and the contrast is something you can’t make up. Donald Trump is married to an African American, Isis is a female musician, and Bill Cosby is a white man who puts out fires instead of starting them.
Unfortunately ‘Isis’ in indeed a wonderful name derived from an Egyptian Goddess. “Isis was worshipped as the ideal mother and wife as well as the patroness of nature and magic. She was the friend of slaves, sinners, artisans and the downtrodden, but she also listened to the prayers of the wealthy, maidens, aristocrats and rulers.” But now it’s the reigning terror that is the Islamic State.
