The UNICEF Snowflake Ball was wide awake last Tuesday night when Katy Perry received the Audrey Hepburn Humanitarian Award.
Perry was given the award for her hard work as a UNICEF ambassador. Over the last three years, the pop singer has been busy traveling to poorer countries, like Vietnam and Madagascar, to raise awareness about important issues such as education and health problems.
The biggest surprise of the night wasn’t that Perry won, but that Hillary Clinton introduced her and presented her with the award. This is the second public appearance she’s made since the end of the election.
Clinton kept her plans to attend this event a secret until the big moment so she could surprise the singer and the crowd, which totally worked, by the way.
Perry couldn’t help but tear up as Clinton presented her with the award.
“I know how deeply she cares about making our world a better place. She is serious about understanding the complex problems we face and pulling people together to solve them. We need champions like Katy now more than ever: her passion, her energy and, yes, her voice, louder than a lion,” the former Democratic presidential nominee said.
Wow, Perry must’ve been walking on air.
The singer heavily endorsed Clinton while she was campaigning for president, and I guess it is safe to say that Clinton knows how to return the love.
After the results of the election came out, Katy gave $10,000 to Planned Parenthood because Trump’s administration may force certain organizations to have budget cuts, and she wanted to donate to those places. She posted a photo on Instagram and encouraged her followers to also donate.
You go, girl!
Perry supports Planned Parenthood not only because it is beneficial to women, but because it helped her learn about sexual health growing up. She had a sheltered childhood, so Planned Parenthood clinics were her solution to learning more about her body and sex education.
It’s clear that Perry was extremely honored to receive the award, especially from a woman she has been a fan of. Clinton had the chance to show the world that she was a KatyCat herself.
