How bout them cowboys?!
I was in first grade the last time the cowboys won the Super Bowl. They are my NFL team (mom please dust off an old picture of me in my cowboys gear as a kid) and every year since 1996 they have torn my heart out.
This off season Dallas has been in the headlines for all the wrong reasons, players being suspended for violating the NFL’s policy on performance enhancing drugs, and players being arrested for doing very stupid things that can lead to jail time.
This team has been the laughing stock for years for having those types of players that during the off season spend more time in jail than at home, I’m surprised we didn’t obtain Jonny Manziel just to stick with the brand. But this needs to change in order to be successful in the NFL.
Which brings me to Ezekiel Elliott….what are you doing dude.
Ezekiel Elliott is in the headlines yet again because Sunday evening he was at a Dallas bar when police were called after an altercation broke out sending a man to the hospital. Elliott has not been arrested and nobody has been charged of a crime as of yet.
First off, dude what are you doing at a bar on a Sunday evening? Game of Thrones is on!! I get that everyone needs to get out and go enjoy themselves but you shouldn’t be putting yourself into these types of situations. Elliott already has a looming investigation by the NFL from a 2016 domestic violence accusation against him. Now with this I wouldn’t be surprised if he gets suspended a game or two this season. And the guy is only 22.
Elliott isn’t the only Cowboy this offseason that’s in some trouble with either the NFL or the law. Defensive end David Irving was suspended for the first four games of the 2017 season for violating the NFL’s policy on performance enhancing drugs.
Cornerback Nolan Carroll was arrested in late May for suspicion of driving while intoxicated, and last but not least, Damien Wilson was charged with two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon on July 4th. This drives me nuts that time after time again these idiots get in trouble and ruin the season without even playing a single game.
Come training camp a leader needs to sit Ezekiel down and tell him the X’s and O’s about life as a football player, these little incidents affect everyone on the team, not just him. Look at the New England Patriots, other than Aaron Hernadez and deflategate, the Patriots are a well oiled organization with two Superbowls under their belt since any controversy. It pains me how well that team is doing.
But I can’t wait for another roller coaster season that ends up being a complete let down with the cowboys finishing 7-9 with a flop in the first playoff game, unless these players get their shit together.
