First off I just want to apologize for totally missing this story when it first happened. I’m not sure how this one slipped through the cracks and guess the deal was inked back in March, but I was watching the Clippers game last night and almost spit out my beer when I saw that the Bumble logo was displayed on their jerseys.
I thought to myself, “There’s no fucking way,” when I had my first glimpse at it. I had to double then triple take it just to register what I just saw. I’m not saying I’m against it, but that’s basically the equivalent to the New York Knicks with a Tinder flame patched onto their uniforms.
I’m just kinda confused as to how Bumble promotes gender equality? First off, it’s basically a hook up app. I guess because the fact that the girl holds the power to start the conversation it promotes gender equality?!
This app itself feeds into objectifying women because you swipe mostly based on looks. How is that promoting gender equality? Listen I’m not against Bumble or what they’re doing. Let’s just not label it as something else and try to promote a fake campaign in order to make money. I’m calling a spade a spade here, but who am I, right?
Just take a look at Angie. This junior designer looks like she’s ready to get it in, and this is an advertisement for Bumble. If you can’t notice there’s also another blonde number waiting in the shadows ready to get swiped on. If this is not objectifying women then I’m not really sure what it, but I digress.
I’ve had fears of this for years and it’s finally coming to fruition. Not the gender equality thing, but now the major sports are starting to sell ad space on their uniforms. I hate it so much and it looks super trashy.
Traditionally, the NFL, MLB, NBA, and NHL all have not had anything displayed on their uniforms besides team logos. They were virgin and pure. It was something that I look pride in as an American sports fan that other leagues in other places would capitalize on, but not here because we had integrity. Had is the key word in that st.
I used to watch soccer games and wonder how the fuck they could let a corporation put a logo right smack in the middle on a jersey. Now we are on a slippery path to looking like the European soccer jerseys or NASCAR and just be tatted up with ads.
Look at this shit. It can’t be for real. The biggest thing on this jersey is not the team name and it makes me sick, but I guess I’ll have to start getting used to it.
Bumble and the Clippers do your thing. Just don’t label it as something it’s not. It’s a goddam company buying space on a jersey to promote something that is not sports. Ugh.
