Hello, hello! Can you smell that special somethin’ in the air? And no, it’s not horse sh*t. It’s the excitement of the Saratoga Race Course season beginning a WEEK early this year, giving us one bonus weekend of degenerate gambling, incredible people-watching, and of course some A++ fashions. While the 2BD squad prepares for our first ever show taped live from the track this Saturday, I’m still holding it down here keeping an eye out on who’s been impressing me in the social media fashion scene.
I’m still going strong and refusing (so far) to repeat people on this list, because honestly I haven’t had to. Yes, my stylish inner circle continues to impress me, but every week I am finding more and more newcomers who earn a spot on the Capital Region’s Best Dressed list. I won’t keep you waiting any longer to find out who they are –check out who made top honors this week for 518 fashion. And as always, a big thank you to our sponsor, ZARA at Crossgates Mall, where you really need to go if you haven’t made the list yet and secretly want to. ZARA’s HUGE sale is happening right now until July 20, so stock up on summer style while you can! AKA, before I buy all the good stuff for myself.
Catherine Hover (@catherinehover // @thepalettecafe)
Catherine is the super sweet (and at the moment, super pregnant) owner of the newest, cutest spot in Saratoga called The Palette Cafe. I had the chance to meet and chat with Catherine a little bit earlier this week, and let me tell you she is somehow even cooler than she looks in pictures. Her energy is amazing, vibrant, and as fun as her fashions. A gal who is true to herself and radiates some serious good vibes is always a YES in my book.
So of course, after a few minutes sipping some cold brew and iced tea together, I interrupted our conversation for an impromptu Best Dressed photo shoot because I simply couldn’t get over her white on white outfit featuring the best baby bump you’ve ever seen. The sheer, mock neck top layered over white jeans and a white tee was plenty great on its own, but Catherine took it to the next level by adding some color with a beaded bag and champagne-covered slip on sneakers. And then, she nailed another amazing look at Opening Day at the track with her family. That’s how you make a splash on the best dressed list!
When you’re heavily involved with racing season at the Saratoga Race Course like Mark, you have to make a big fashion statement on Opening Day. You just have to (cough cough, Jack and John, if you’re reading this). The 2BD Squad has been working with Mark and his team over the past few weeks coordinating the Squadcast at the track, and I was happy to introduce myself to him in person yesterday and yet again steal a photo opp for the Best Dressed list. Really killing two birds with one stone when I’m up in Saratoga, huh?
Mark’s seersucker suit is a summer staple for a man who’s used to dressed up in a suit and tie every day, and he made the responsible choice by pairing it with a white button down underneath as to not soak up too much sun, and really letting the floral tie be the focal point of the look. This look screams summer in Saratoga to me and I hope all the fellas out there are taking notes.
Lauren Murawski (@laurenmurawski)
I love Upstate NY and all, but there are far few feelings for a fashionista more exhilarating than finding the perfect colored NYC building to match your super chic style. My girl Lauren here hit the jackpot this week in Soho where she snapped this pic that is the entire color inspo of her amazing look.
Lauren is one of the biggest ZARA fans out there, so it’s safe to say at least 50 percent of this look is from there. See, I told you that shopping there could guarantee a spot on the list! This silky hot pink skirt keeps the neon trend going strong this summer, and Lauren edges the look up just a little bit with a slicked back bun, a graphic tee and a pair of sporty tennis shoes. One of my favorite looks from Fashion Friday so far.
Carlee Bryda (@carleebryda)
Siro’s Cup is the official kick off to Saratoga racing season, and it’s a place where you can find a lot of who’s who type of folks in the Capital Region sporting a fashionable preview to what they’ll be dressing like all summer at the track. And Carlee right here is absolutely slaying this color. I’ve seen a lot of these really light shades that make you go, “Is it blue? Is it gray? It lavender?” Whatever it is, I love it on her.
One shoulder dresses have officially been back in style, but not everyone is willing to risk bringing it back out onto the scene, but boy I’m glad Carlee did. This dress has just the right amount of detail with some nice seam work up top, a thick belt-like waistband followed by a skirt that uses a draping technique to create some movement and fun on bottom. Plus, she’s got a Miller Lite cup in her hand to take the look from awesome to AMAZING.
