I Am OFFICIALLY Ready for Summer in Saratoga with a Track Hat Made Just For Me

Just before our show at the track debuted, I got an email from a sweet little lady who had been trying to get in touch with me and finally got a hold of my contact info from Kristi. Nancy Matt, owner of Le Beau Chapeau custom hat designs, said she wanted to make me my own beau chapeau to wear during our Squadcast at the track, and oh WOW was I excited to open up that email.

My very own track hat?! In all my years of going to the races, I can only think of one time I wore a hat, and that was during an episode of Nobody Asked Me, But…filmed in the picnic table area. A video where I publicly said I am NOT as cool as my parents make me out to be on Facebook (still true), but apparently someone thinks I am cool enough to rock a real deal piece of headwear on our show this summer, which I fully support.

Nancy and I went back and forth a few times via email about what I envisioned the hat to look like, and well, I had absolutely no idea. I wanted something fun and bright, sure, but who am I to curb the creativity of a hat maker who’s been in the biz for 25+ years? Absolutely not. So, all I did was send her my head measurement (a very weird measurement to take of yourself if you have never done that before) and gave her full creative license to do whatever she wanted –literally –while designing this special Saratoga sunhat.

And after meeting WNYT News Channel 13 morning anchor Subrina Dhammi last weekend at the track (PS: I definitely fan-girled a little bit), I felt 100 percent comfortable that Nancy’s vision for me would come to life because the hat Subrina was wearing was also custom made for her by Nancy. Will I be able to pull off my look as well as Subrina does? That part is to be determined.

And I’m sorry if you’ve gotten to the end of this blog expecting to see a photo of the hat in all its glory, but you should know better. OF COURSE I am going to save this hat for some dramatic unveiling after I head straight to Circles in Stuyvesant Plaza to find an outfit that will complement its color and design. So, watch out for August 10 –that’s the debut date. Or, who knows, maybe I’ll get wine drunk and throw it on while dancing to some John Mellencamp on the porch before then.
